Which is to be? a constant battle to ‘hold the line’ against relapse, or a continuing thriving challenge to expand one’s life and become,’more than’?
As usual in a life that has been distressed by a life threatening, mood altering, mind changing addictive process, the solutions are generally very simple. As with all simple and effective things they are underpinned with a lot of the right kind of practice.
Practice not only makes perfect, it also makes permanent, so it is a good idea to practice the right kind of stuff. If you don’t it all becomes harder and harder and ‘relapse’, more properly described as ‘collapse’, follows with a degree of certainty that over the years I have noted, is an ever increasing likelihood, with the wrong kind of inputs and input processing.
So; what to do to improve the likelihood of a successful and productive life after the monumental efforts and achievements in bringing that addiction to a halt?
You did that, right!? So celebrate something that few, very few really understand. You with whatever assistance was available, climbed out of the chasm. Borne on angels wings, clutching wildly at the hands held out and scrambling back over the precipice edge.
And then…and then the relapses begin; sowing doubt and despair in the hearts and minds of all around you, and especially you. So you begin a ‘Relapse Prevention’ program. Good , thats what you should do. You are an addict, so using isnt’ an option. The more you understand about the subtle tricks of the addictive mind, the better. But when you’ve done the self analysis charts and sat through the countless on line videos and completed work books that fill a store room; then what? More of the same? More gripping lists of defects, flaws, shortcomings and threats! The lists go on. admittedly the addictive process is life threatening, but so is the endless filing of drawbacks to your armoury- you can feel the will to live seeping out of your pores! Recognise this? If so, read on.
What is needed is recovery maintenance. The kind of practical emotional and spiritual mechanics that point to a well tuned vehicle, lubricated with the right oils and the drive train constantly checked and upgraded as peripherals wear out and are replaced as the new you continues to metamorphose and grow.
what I will show here over the next few weeks is simple but effective and frequently not often talked about gifts you can give yourself and those around you that make relapse prevention something you did once!
If you know someone who might benefit from this-pass it on
In the next few days and weeks i will unfold a 4 part maintenance program that makes sense, is easy to implement and , most importantly works and perhaps even more importantly might also be fun
